A very important and promising finding for the biodiversity of the Divjaka-Karavasta National Park. At last, the Great Spotted Eagle was observed again in Divjaka. On the 15th of January 2017, we observed it for just one second as entering swiftly in the darkness of Kulari forest (Divjaka). Today, we were even more lucky to spot and take e few pictures from the distance as it was patrolling with its wingspan of 1,5-1,8 m above the flooded land north of Karavasta lagoon. Another example that should motivate us all for protecting this jewel of Albania, Mediterranean basin and Europe.
On the 24th of January /2017, aT " Reshit Hyseni " school Zogaj (Shkoder) for the foundation the "Young Ecologists" Group for the protection of the Lake and its surrounding habitats.
What should we protect? Why should we protect? What can we do? Those were just some of the questions or topics of the conversation with the curious pupils and ready to undertake small but symbolic actions for the protection of biodiversity.
Very soon, we will be together again in concrete initiatives to protect nature.
The project is supported byREC Albania in the framework of the "Albanian Civil Society for a European Environment" (#ACHIEVE) funded by theEuropean Union in Albania.
18 different wetland areas monitored all over Albania, more than 165,000 birds, 64 species of wintering waterbirds, more than 60 participants, thousands of kilometers covered in difficult weather conditions and wetland surfaces partly frozen. This is the picture of the latest census of Wintering Waterbirds, undertaken during 13-15 of January 2017. Now we have to analyze those results, understand the populations’ trend for different species to provide recommendations for the respective administration and share this analysis with all our nature friends. A sincere "thank you!" to all the participants! You were great!
